Who we are

An operating group built around one idea

PioneerUnion (PNU) Group is an international conglomerate founded in Seattle, Washington ten years ago and headquartered in Singapore. The group began as an international consulting house before becoming an operating group built around a single idea: universal access to the essentials of human dignity.

The Maldives is our first full-scale country chapter. Over five years we are building solar capacity, modern island agriculture, housing, healthcare access and national supply chains here — and using what we learn as the model for other island nations.

Our motto is Lux Sit — let there be light.

01
Clean energy
Solar generation for households and islands.
02
Affordable housing
Residential and facility construction.
03
Food security
Island agriculture, greenhouses and poultry.
04
Healthcare access
Basic medical access within reach of every resident.
05
Essential merchandise
Affordable, durable daily goods and appliances.
06
Traditional finance
Banking, insurance and investment services.
Culture & values

Values first, ability second, pedigree last

We do what we committed

People before metrics
WHO THRIVES HERE

We believe the most competent candidates — those who fit our assessment criteria and our values — win. We do not discriminate on degree level, school, gender or age. We welcome all people to apply.

We believe in nurturing people. Our founder once served as a college professor, and that conviction runs through the group. What we value most is problem-solving ability, an eager heart to learn, and loyalty to your own career path.

YOU WILL PROBABLY ENJOY WORKING HERE IF YOU
Figure things out when nobody has taught you how
Would rather own a real problem than have a comfortable title
Tell people the truth, including when it costs you something
Notice when a colleague is struggling before they say anything
Want to still be learning in ten years

You will probably not enjoy working here if you need every task defined before you start, or if you prefer being right to getting it right.

The Management Trainee Programme

A structured programme for fresh graduates

Designed to grow the group's future senior global management layer. Every role in this intake is part of it.

EMPLOYMENT STRUCTURE
All roles begin with a six-month internship period at a defined internship salary. If you pass the qualification check earlier, the internship ends early and you are confirmed sooner — the six months is a ceiling, not a fixed term. On confirmation your salary rises to the confirmed rate for your position, stated in your offer.
01
Real responsibility from month one
Trainees take on operational work immediately — not shadowing, not filing.
02
A senior who teaches you
Every trainee is assigned a dedicated senior lead in their function who trains and mentors them throughout the programme.
03
Rotation across functions
You will work across functions to understand how the group actually operates. Your base is Malé.
04
Structured training in your first year
And continued professional development throughout your career, including sponsored certifications and professional qualifications in your field.
05
The international track
Management trainees are based in the Maldives for up to three years. Based on evaluation, trainees are then transferred to the group's Singapore, Dubai, London, Hong Kong or Los Angeles offices.
A DEFINED CAREER LADDER
Management Trainee Associate Supervisor Manager Senior Manager Director

Promotion is decided by twice-yearly evaluation, with a significant salary increase at every step. Engineers and technical specialists may advance on a parallel technical track — Engineer → Senior Engineer → Principal — at equivalent pay points, so deep specialists are never forced into people management to progress.

What we look for

Values come first

Before any ability is compared, we look at values: integrity — we do what we committed — and empathy — people before metrics. A candidate whose values align with the company's is then assessed on ability. A candidate whose values do not align is not a PNU hire at any level of talent.

This is checked throughout the process: in how you answer, and in how you actually treat the people in the room with you.

WHY OUR PROCESS LOOKS DIFFERENT
In the AI era, much of the common knowledge learned in school is becoming commoditised. The next generation of leaders needs a different skill set: the ability to attack problems nobody taught you, sound judgment with incomplete information, real collaboration with both people and AI, and learning speed.
THE FOUR CRITERIA · SAME FOR EVERY APPLICANT, EVERY POSITION
Logical thinking35%
Structured reasoning, and above all metacognition — how you attack a problem you know nothing about.
Past experience & achievement35%
Things you drove yourself — projects, internships, self-taught skills. Scale matters less than ownership.
Language proficiency20%
Working professional English; clarity in your native language.
Degree & school10%
Deliberately the smallest weight. A strong candidate from any school outranks a weak one from a famous one. For our Maldives roles, an A-Level pass is scored as a qualifying credential in its own right.
How we assess you

Three assessed stages, one combined score

Every application is read in full. The one-paragraph question in your application is your first real chance to stand out, whatever your CV looks like. These are composite weights, not elimination quotas — your final ranking is decided by the combined weighted score across all three stages.

STAGE 130%
Written assessment
Professional language, logical reasoning and estimation, an unfamiliar-problem exercise, and a set of written value scenarios. The paper is distributed only minutes before the sitting begins.
STAGE 230%
In-person interview
A 30–40 minute structured conversation with two interviewers: your experience, a live problem-solving segment, and a personal conversation about you, your plans and your values.
STAGE 340%
Group assessment day
A half-day collaborative task with other finalists, observed by trained assessors. There is no script to game — we watch how you actually think and work with people.
ON AI TOOLS
Stage 1 is fully proctored and AI tools are strictly forbidden. From Stage 2 onward, AI tools are provided where relevant — we want to see how well you work with them. We are not testing whether you can avoid AI; we are testing what remains when it is taken away, and what you can do when it is handed to you.

FAQ

Questions we are asked most

Do I need a degree to apply?
No. Our Maldives positions are open to fresh college graduates and to candidates who have passed A-Levels. An A-Level pass is a full qualification for these roles, not a lesser route — it enters the same process, is assessed on the same criteria, and carries the same programme, training and transfer track. Degree and school together account for only 10% of the qualification weighting.
I graduated two years ago. Am I still eligible?
The programme is designed for fresh graduates, but we would rather see a strong application than enforce a date. If you are early in your career and the role fits you, apply and tell us your situation in your email.
Do I need work experience?
No. We are hiring for potential, not for a track record. What we look for under “past experience and achievement” includes projects, self-taught skills, community work and anything you drove yourself — not just formal employment.
Is my English good enough?
Language proficiency is 20% of the assessment — it matters, but it is not the largest factor, and we would rather have a sharp thinker with functional English than a fluent speaker with nothing behind it. Several roles explicitly welcome candidates who are still improving their English.
What is the six-month internship period?
Every role begins with a six-month internship at a defined internship salary. It is an assessment period on both sides. If you pass the qualification check earlier, you are confirmed earlier — the six months is a ceiling, not a fixed term. On confirmation your salary rises to the confirmed rate for your position.
Will I have to move to another island?
Your base is Malé. Some roles — agriculture, solar, construction — involve extended postings to project islands, and this is stated clearly in those listings. Marketing, sales, logistics, office, HR, accounting and software roles are Malé-based, with occasional short atoll trips for some of them.
Can I use AI tools in the assessment?
Not in Stage 1 — the written assessment is fully proctored and AI tools are strictly forbidden. From Stage 2 onward, AI tools are provided where relevant. We want to see both: what you can do unassisted, and how well you work with modern tools.
How should I prepare for the written assessment?
You cannot revise for it, and that is deliberate. There is no domain knowledge required anywhere in the paper — no major or degree gives an advantage. Come rested and think clearly.
What happens in the group assessment day?
You will work on a collaborative task with other finalists for about an hour, observed by trained assessors who do not participate. There is no assigned leader and no script to follow. We are watching how you think, how you work with people, and how you behave when the task turns out to be harder than it looked.
How long does the whole process take?
Approximately four to six weeks from application to offer for most candidates, depending on assessment day scheduling.
Is there an application deadline?
No. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and positions stay open until we find the right person. There is no advantage to waiting — earlier applications are assessed earlier.
Will you tell me if I am unsuccessful?
Yes. We reply to every application.
What happens after my Maldives term?
Management trainees are based in the Maldives for up to three years. Based on your evaluation, you are then transferred to one of the group's international offices — Singapore, Dubai, London, Hong Kong or Los Angeles.
